With great sadness we must abandon the plans to have our reunion in Norway this year. We have high hopes that those few who registered this year will have the perseverance to wait until the next chance. Naturally they have already been reimbursed by the time this letter is delivered to You. If this is not the case, please contact Kirsi as soon as possible.
But, no fear! We are happy to welcome you to our reunion in Kuivaniemi, on 23rd of July, 2011.
We have an online version of the family tree for registered members of the family.
The next official family reunion will take place in 2011 in northern Norway. Common transportation (by bus) and lodging will be arranged. The date of the reunion is set to be at the end of July. Those who are interested, should contact Kirsi Zühlke as soon as possible.
It is known, that as early as 1598, Pekka Kaikkonen and his brother Matti used to live in the area called Karinniemi, situated in the peninsula between river Kuivajoki and stream called Putaanoja. In those days, that peninsula was likely a small island, but the narrow between it and the mainland was so shallow, that during low tide, the island would become connected to the mainland.
In 1607, Martti, son of Pekka Kaikkonen founded a settlement in the aforementioned place. In 1612 this settlement was put under taxation, whereby it was considered worth of a quarter of a full size homestead.
